Podcast No. 0013: Spending the day with Bob Gurr

Hyperion Studios

This month on Dispodopolis we discuss Waltland, the Disney History Bus Tour, that is hosted by Bob Gurr. Cousin Ryan was able to experience this amazing bus tour last summer in July of 2017. Ryan will take us stop by stop and discuss all of the fun and interesting facts and sights he saw.

The Waltland tour is produced by Fandom Productions and runs about four months every year during the summer months and September. The tour takes you through the geographic history of Walt Disney’s career in Los Angeles. It starts and ends at the Los Angeles Zoo parking lot at Griffith Park.

Griffith Park Carousel

You visit Walt & Roy Disney’s house in Lyric Avenue and there is a stop by where the Hyperion Studio stood and the current Walt Disney Studio. It also includes an architecture history of the early days of Los Angeles with visits to the Grand Central Air Terminal and Hyperion Studios Bungalows that still stand. There is a stop at the Autry Museum of the American West for lunch and time for a snack at the Merry-Go-Round. The highlight of this tour has to be the ride on the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round with Bob Gurr.

Walt Disney's House

This tour isn’t just for Walt Disney enthusiasts, it is also a great way to see Hollywood. You get a different perspective of the area, one from a more personal level. You see how Hollywood developed and how each of the studios influenced each other with their close proximity. Ryan was amazed how small a footprint the tour took.

We follow up this conversation with our announcement of our attendance of the Bob Gurr’s Yesterland Throwback Patio Mixer & BBQ that happens on Saturday, June 30th, 2018. We can’t wait to spend the evening with Bob Gurr at his house and learn about his times at the Disney Company. There will be live entertainment and a glimpse into Bob Gurr’s personal collection of Disney memorabilia. It should be amazing.

Happily Ever After Fireworks Show at Magic Kingdom

After our discussion of Bob Gurr, we end our evening with our review of the new fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Happily Ever After is the best fireworks show that I have ever seen the parks develop. It is a truly engrossing fireworks show that uses the buildings and atmosphere to great an amazing experience.

Before we jump into our discussion of Bob Gurr’s Waltland tour, we will be discuss how we would spend our birthday in the parks. There aren’t any limitations, so how wild can we get?
